H.B. 6572
An Act Concerning Intimidation Based on Bigotry or Bias Against Homeless People
As it currently stands, H.B. 6572, An Act Concerning Intimidation Based on Bigotry or Bias Against Homeless People, is meant to amend current hate crime legislation to include housing status as a protected category.
Current hate crime legislation identifies categories, such as race, gender, and sexual orientation, to be protected from acts of hate and violence directly targeted to individuals for reasons specific to these categories. With the inclusion of housing status as a category, acts of violence against people experiencing homelessness would be considered a hate crime, and perpetrators would be subjected to harsher punishment.
