Domestic violence includes harming one’s partner physically and/or emotionally. In instances of domestic violence, individuals may flee their situation, which may result in a housing crisis.
Individuals fleeing domestic violence may have few resources. They may be fleeing with children, and/or have little support to turn to. There are few shelters specific to individuals facing domestic violence. Because individuals fleeing domestic violence are seeking safety, finding a shelter that keeps information confidential and offers privacy and security is difficult. Since there are limited shelters and housing options available, individuals often return to their abusers.
